Life at INVIRO

Employee Stories

When I graduated from university with a degree in mechanical engineering, I was eager to start my career. However, like many new grads, I had no work experience and wasn’t sure where to begin. I was fortunate that INVIRO saw potential in me and gave me my first opportunity as a CAD drafter. As months turned into years, I grew from just executing drawings to contributing ideas in design. I started managing small tasks, then full project components. Encouraged by my colleagues and supervisors and supported by the company, I began working toward my Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.

INVIRO didn’t just support me professionally, they believed in my potential. They provided flexible time to study for my exams and assigned me to diverse projects that helped me meet the experience requirements for licensure. Just as importantly, they respected my personal life and helped me find a healthy balance between work and taking care of my child, which made a big difference during some of the more demanding phases of my career growth. Looking back, I’m grateful that someone took a chance on a new graduate with no experience. More importantly, I’m proud to have grown with a company that values people, potential, and professional development.”

Qian

Mechanical Designer and Project Manager

I began my career with the company as a Mechanical Engineering undergrad, starting out as a Project Coordinator on the LEED and Sustainability team. This role provided a strong foundation in energy-efficient design and green building practices. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to grow within the company, taking on roles as Mechanical Project Manager, then Mechanical Department Manager for the Commercial Retail division, and now serving as a Principal.

The growth potential here is truly exceptional. The leadership team values initiative and supports development at every stage, which has been key to my progression. The culture is built on collaboration, mentorship, and technical excellence. The work is challenging, rewarding, and impactful, and the people are what make it all worthwhile. I’m grateful to be part of a company that not only delivers great projects but also invests in its people.

Petros

Principal

I’ve been part of INVIRO for over 17 years, and it’s been an incredible journey of growth, learning, and collaboration. As a member of the Mechanical Design team, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide range of challenging and rewarding projects that continuously push the boundaries of innovation and technical excellence.

What’s kept me here all these years is the people – the supportive, knowledgeable, and passionate team that makes coming to work something to look forward to. There’s a strong culture of mentorship and teamwork, where everyone is willing to share ideas and work together to find the best solutions.

INVIRO is a place where your experience is valued, and where you’re encouraged to keep learning and evolving every step of the way.

Ming

Mechanical Designer

I’ve been part of INVIRO for over 15 years, and what started as a receptionist role has evolved into a fulfilling career in Human Resources. This isn’t just a workplace — it’s an organization that genuinely invests in its people. Throughout my journey, I’ve been given opportunities to learn, grow, and step into new challenges, always with the support and mentorship of leaders who believed in my potential. Along the way, I’ve been able to apply my educational background in human resources, turning my academic foundation into a meaningful and rewarding career.

INVIRO’s culture is one where growth is encouraged, hard work is recognized, and every employee has the chance to shape their own future. I’m proud to work for a company that not only builds sustainable, high-performance buildings across Canada but also builds long-term careers. Even after 15 years, I’m still learning, growing, and reaching for the next opportunity — and that’s what keeps me excited to come to work every day.

Katerina

Human Resources Lead

I started at INVIRO as a summer intern before my third year of university, and it really helped shape my career. The hands-on experience in the evolving sustainability industry gave me a real-world perspective that I couldn’t get in school. Thanks to great mentorship, I earned my LEED accreditations before graduating and I’ve been fortunate to grow with the company ever since. Over the past 8 years, I’ve been able to work on a variety of projects across different green building rating systems, all while knowing I’m making a positive impact on the planet. What I love about INVIRO is that there is always an opportunity to learn something new everyday. There is a close-knit culture here and people truly care about your growth. I’m grateful for the journey so far and excited for what’s next.

Kristina

Senior Sustainability and LEED Project Manager

Interning at INVIRO was one of the best experiences I was able to partake in as an electrical engineering student. I was able to apply many of the theories I learned in class to real problems in the workplace and gain hands-on experience that isn’t traditionally available in practical school settings (eg. labs). In addition to assisting with a variety of projects in the Electrical department, my team was incredibly helpful and patient. They were always willing to explain a concept more than once and would take the time to teach me the correct methodologies used in industry. Overall, I am very fortunate to be in a place where I am surrounded by a supportive team and can learn something new everyday

Valerie

Electrical Design Intern

As an early professional at INVIRO, I’ve had the opportunity to gain valuable experience and expand my knowledge through the company’s strong training programs, hands-on learning opportunities, and the many resources available to help me develop my skills. From day one, I’ve felt supported not only through excellent training but also through the daily guidance and encouragement of my coworkers, who have been incredible mentors and role models. Their willingness to share knowledge and offer support has made a real difference in my professional growth.

Even though I haven’t been here long, it’s clear that INVIRO makes every employee feel like they have an important role to play in the company’s success. This supportive environment, paired with opportunities for continuous learning and career growth, makes INVIRO a place where I can see myself growing, and building a long-term career.

Angelo

Human Resources Coordinator

I was a recent graduate when I started my first position with INVIRO as a CAD operator. My reporting manager at the time was approachable and very supportive, consistently giving me opportunities to learn and take initiative in electrical design. This encouraged a safe space to make mistakes and grow from them. I was able to touch base on all kinds of projects and gain real experience in electrical engineering.

The team is INVIRO supportive and very knowledgeable. There is plenty of opportunity to grow here at INVIRO, as you develop your skills by learning from experienced professional engineers and designers.
